Switch To Run A 3 Phase Compressor On Single Phase

I have converter a 3 phase 220 volt  air compressor to single phase. I need a  timed relay to start the

the system when the air pressure drops. Since it is momentary, it needs to be a timed relay with a short (1-2 Seconds) to prevent burning out the capacitors.

Can someone help me with the timed relay I need or how I can have the motor start when the pressure drops and kicks out when it reaches the top limit

I'm buying a 12 lead Stamford generator, engine driven, and have a question or two about over current protection and ground fault protection.  I will normally have it wired for single phase 120 and 240 in the double delta configuration.  I may occasionally rewire it for 3 phase 240 in the series delta configuration.

For the single phase setup, what I've read so far leads me to believe I should have a main circuit breaker of about 125% continuous ampacity; it's a 10 kw generator.  Is that correct?  What kind of breaker do I need?  Should this main be a GFCI?  Do I bond neutral and ground?  This is a portable unit so I need to package a load center on the generator frame.  Can I wire one 240 receptacle directly to the main and two or three 120 volt GFCI's on it as well?  Or do I need another 240 breaker downstream of the main?  What should I be thinking about for swithching back and forth between single phase and three phase?  Alot of questions, trying to get smart and be safe.  Thanks.

I have a 5 hp, guess it's a 80 gallon, 220 volt Ingersoll Rand compressor and had problems with the motor not wanting to start. I found a replacement box that included the Siemens starter and a new reset. The only thing this new box doesn't have is the two 5 amp fuses and didn't figure I needed to use them so I didn't add them to the new box.(?) After wiring the unit I have found the only way the compressor will kick on is if I hold down the Siemens starter re-set.

I know I have the motor wired properly and the wires from the pressure switch expect the white one. It originally went to one of the two fuses and than to where I currently is.(?)

The black motor wire was connected to the bottom of the reset (lower left), which is out of view in the pic

The white motor wire was connected to the bottom right of the Siemens starter

The motor ground was connected to the ground terminal on the box.

The pressure switch black wire was connected to the top right of the starter.

The pressure switch with wire was connected to the top left of the starter.

The ground was connected to the ground terminal on the box.

The incoming black hot wire was connected to the top left of of the starter.

The incoming white hot wire was connected to the top right of the starter.

The ground was connected to the ground terminal on the box.

Any idea what's wrong and have I included enough information?

Thanks, Shawn

sir

i have seen on this site------------------------------------------------------------120/240 for houses:  120 is line to ground, 240 is line to line

so got the point from this point that we have three phase connection so

120 is phase voltage and 240 is line voltage

but line voltage is=squareroot of 3 *phase voltage and (240 is not equal to sqroot of 3*120)

please send the answer on  ---------   as soon as possible

Hi, I have a 6" craftsmans metal cutting lathe and trying to wire a drum switch to it. The motor is a 1/3 hp westinghouse split phase motor 6.3 amp 1725 rpm. The switch is forward-off-reverse. There are two posts and two wires on the motor I'm not sure witch ones are start or run and how to go about wiring it there are 6 screws on the switch.I could probly post pics to someone  Thanks

found a crazy deal today as im a 'picker' and have been doing this since before it was a tv show. heres what i found, generac backup generators that the output is 90 volts of DC current. they run on nat gas or propane via a switch. my question is how can i use these generators to run stuff on my catering mobile taco/food truck or backup power for my house? i need AC current and according to literature on the web, the generators are 14kw and some are single phase and some are 3 ph.  i know that i can just drop a leg on 3 phase to get single ph. but how to get ac i dont know.

im guessing the engines would be kewl on a go cart and use a propane tank for a gas tank, right? any help on elec conversion would be appreciated.

hey i jus need a simple answer.  single phase pump motor needs to be connect to power.  there is one green, one black and one red/white? (i believe this wire used to be red but faded).  i kno green is ground, i just need to know which wire gets hooked up to L1 and L2.  the motor is set on 115V.  and dont worry power is cut off completely.

I am wiring a three phase motor through a two pole vacuum switch. two lines go through the switch but one line is always hot to the motor. is this proper or is this a safety issue?

I have wired many motors in my life but this is kicking my butt. The parkinsons doesn't help either. The motor is a 1/6 hp G.E. 120vac single phase 4 lead blk, red, and directional blue, yel. the switch is a Carling heavy duty DPDT. I have soldered red, blk to the bottom 2 terminals-grn , wht to the middle terminals. I can get it to reverse but at the off middle position (on-off-on) it continues to run with a jerky movement.

Please give me your thoughts on this one as I really need to get it going as I have already mounted it to a reduction gear box for this project. My cognitive thinking is going rather fast.

thanks, hatch

HI all,

I have a rain barrel system with a pump (110v) and I ran a 3way switch to my patio and one by the pump (in a shed).  My wife now wants the pump on a timer (to water the garden).

So...I could just add a timer to the switched outlet, but I want to be able to override the timer with the switch (at the patio or shed), without interfering with the pump timer operation.

I've drawn up a diagram showing my proposed setup.

Question: can I rig up the pump with two power cords and plug one into the timed outlet and one into the switched outlet and not burn down my shed in the process?

the switch is from my pool remote. is it the switch relay that is causing the problem?

thanks
