I've had an on-off problems with two of my ceiling fans (different makers, one hunter and one minka). Wired differently too, the minka one is controlled by a wall remote control, and the hunter one by two wired wall switches).

Every now and then, for no reason, the fan will stop working. It may stop working for a day, a week, whatever.. then start working again for a month or even a year. When this happens, the light kit on both fans still works (on the minka, the light kit and fan are on the same line, separated in the fan by the remote control receiver. On the hunter, it's two different wires going into the fan.).

It stumps me.. I'll just turn the fan on one day, it will spin a little bit, then stop. Nothing gets it to work. I can hear a small hum in its motor, like it's getting power, but it won't spin. Then a week later I may accidentally turn it on again and it will run. Two and three years ago I had repeated on/off problems with both fans. Last year, both worked perfectly the entire year. This year one of them has started acting up again.

Any hints would be appreciated.

After my electrical panel was replaced I noticed that my ceiling fan light was dim.  My fan works fine on all speeds but the light is dim.  It is a Hampton Bay model MKV with a remote control.  Wondering if it could be a relay problem with the unit??

Greetings!

I'm hoping for some help, I am replacing an old ceiling fan with a new one that has a remote control function.

I discovered in the box on the ceiling there were three wires coming in and capped off with a wire nut.  The previous fan was wired to two other white wires coming in, and the fan is on a switch.

The problem is when I wire the new fan the same way the old one was, it does not have power.

When I wire it to the three capped off wires instead, no power either.

When I wire all of them together (gasp!) It shorts out at the breaker.

Any ideas on how to wire this thing?

Thanks!

I have a problem on my outdoor lighting.

I just changed to LED bulbs, when I turn off the lights, it came back on but dimm.

can someone help?

the switch is from my pool remote. is it the switch relay that is causing the problem?

thanks

I replaced a ceiling light with a fan/light with a remote. everthing works. their is one light switch and one dimmer switch. The dimmer switch has a red wire and a black wire connected to the black wires coming out of the dimmer switch, plus a green wire hooked to the metal portion of the dimmer. My question is: Do I have to remove the dimmer switch, if so, can I disconnect the red and black and hook them together? If I have to replace the dimmer with a regular switch, what kind of switch do I get?

Thank you

Live in California...  Pool and backyard remodel

Running a new 100Amp line from the main electrical house box that is 200amp to the new Hayward ProLogic Pool sub panel for the pool equipment. Is that #2 wire or #4?

The pool installers are telling me that they need 50 amps for the 3 pumps, 2 pool lights and gas heater that I have.

The reason that I'm running 100amps to the sub panel and only using 50amps for the pool is because there is electrical going to the overhang and backyard that can be controlled by a remote that talks to the ProLogic sub panel.

I have a overhang/BBQ area that has 17Amps for the refer and BBQ, a water feature which is about 15-20 amps, 2 ceiling fans for the overhang, low-voltage lights for the overhang, low-voltage landscaping lights for the backyard only. I think that is about it.

Inspector is telling me that I need a GFCI at the sub panel. Is this a 100amp GFCI prior to the sub panel being wired? Or does each piece of equipment need a GFCI?

I am having a licensed electrical contractor do this, but I'm just trying to do my homework because some of them are not knowledgeable about pool wiring...

(BTW, I had a licensed contractor out yesterday, to give me a bid and he said that they didn't make a 100amp GFCI, which of course I did see on the internet, not using him!!)

My brother-in-law has a Coleman 8750 Watt portable generator with a 13hp Honda engine.  Worked fine for a couple of years and then all of a sudden it wouldn't provide any voltage at the outlets.  So he called up Coleman and they said the problem was probably a $50 control board.  So he ordered one and installed it.  This temporarily fixed the genset but after an hour or so the electric quit again.  So it appears something is causing the control boards to go bad.  Any idea what could be causing this?
